Welcome to the official site of wrock bands The Vanishing Cabinet and Essence of Dittany. I, like so many before me, have been inspired by the amazing works of JK Rowling and all the other awesome wizard rock bands out there.
In the lead up to the release of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I stumbled upon a music scene, Wizard Rock, and fell in love. I was moved, I was inspired and was filled with a sudden desire to learn to play the guitar. I owned one, but I never played it. I didn't really know how.
I love music and I love Harry Potter, so after being introduced to wrock I thought I just had to challenge my abilities. Push myself and see what I can do. In September of 2007, I wrote my first song.
The following November, I decided it was time to join the music movement I loved so much and create a band of my own. And so, The Vanishing Cabinet was born.
Why The Vanishing Cabinet you may ask? It took me a long time to think of a name. I didn't want to go with a character as I wanted to have a wide variety of songs, so I went through the books and made a list of things that would sound cool as a band name. Then I came across the vanishing cabinet, which I have always thought would be a neat thing to play with. I mean... who wouldn't be curious to know where you would end up if you stepped inside. Or perhaps you are a Slytherin like me and would stuff someone else inside. You evil Slytherin you!
In March of 2008, wanting to explore my compositional abilities a little farther, I started up a side project, Essence of Dittany.
